The Only 6 Products That Have Actually Helped My Chronic Fatigue

by Marissa Pomerance

If you also live with chronic fatigue, you know that it’s more than just being tired. It’s like living in a fog. Feeling a little fuzzy and detached. Feeling like you’re going to fall asleep in the middle of the day, and then being wide awake the second you go to bed.

My parents joke that my catchphrase is, “I’m tired.”

Before you start peppering the comment section with questions like, “but have you tried celery juice??” The answer is probably, “yes.” I’ve tried drinking more water. And HIIT workouts. And waking up earlier. And waking up later. And cutting out coffee. And cutting out dairy.

But these are the only 6 things I’ve tried that make a dent in my chronic fatigue. None of them are magic bullets. When paired with a consistent sleep schedule, consistent workout schedule, frequent walks in nature, therapy appointments, and the occasional meditation, it all adds up to feeling better. Even sort of normal, again.

1. A High Dose Vitamin D Supplement

A high dose Vitamin D supplement is not for everyone, and you should absolutely talk to your doctor to determine whether you need one.

But as I’ve been deemed Vitamin D deficient by almost every doctor I’ve seen over the years (which I credit to my excellent sun protection routine), a high dose supplement was a necessity for me.

And by far, it’s made the biggest impact with my chronic fatigue.

Also, taking them consistently is key—apparently my previous regimen of randomly remembering to take one every 17 days wasn’t working for me. Who would’ve thought?

2. This “Brain Dust” That I throw In Smoothies

Do we sort of want to laugh at Moon Juice because it seems ridiculous that we're paying $40 for dubious powders with god-knows-what ingredients?

Yes!

But, I throw this in an afternoon smoothie (never drink it on its own--it tastes terrible) and that 3pm crash is almost unnoticeable. In fact, I even feel more focused.

3. And This Cacao Powder I also Throw In Smoothies

Another dust to throw in an afternoon smoothie, but this one just tastes like chocolate. Except that it’s made with mushrooms. Yes, mushrooms. Which have all kinds of magical properties (like for immunity and focus) that you can read about here.

Throw in some bananas, dates, peanut butter, and it's like a chocolate-salted caramel shake. Even if you don’t instantly feel better, at least it tastes good.

4. These Supplements When I’m Too Lazy For Smoothies

When I don’t feel like fiddling around with potions and powders, I just pop one of these instead.

Specifically formulated for adrenal fatigue (is that what I have? Jury’s still out), it has adaptogens and Vitamin B6 to help keep energy levels consistent throughout the day.

And it’s one of the few supplements I’ve taken that keeps my energy up without making me feel jittery.

5. This Oil That Helps Me Sleep

Unsurprisingly, getting better sleep mitigates my fatigue (a little), and this magic concoction is one of the few things that helps me sleep.

I’d recommend experimenting with your dosage (of course consulting your physician) until you find something that works. I have a high tolerance, and need a higher dosage to really see a difference.

6. The Only Melatonin That Doesn’t Give Me Weird Dreams

This is one of the few melatonin supplements that sends me off into a blissful, deep sleep without giving me bizarre stress dreams.
