We Found Jennifer Aniston’s Exact Beauty Routine And It’s Everything We Wanted It To Be

by The Candidly Team

You know we always try to be up front with you. Even about the embarrassing things. Like the absurd lengths we have to go to to get ourselves to exercise. Or the TV-show wardrobes we’ve maniacally tried to replicate. And, of course, our possibly unhealthy, certainly unrestrained infatuation with Jennifer Aniston.

We’ve duped her most iconic looks, BOTH as herself and as the most famous character she’s ever played. Made her famous Cobb-ish salad. Found her hairbrush. We know, it’s getting weird.

But this time, we’ve one-upped even ourselves by sleuthing her entire, precise at-home beauty routine. Because, let’s face it, you don’t have to be as unhinged as we are to want to know how this woman achieves that smooth, glowy, timeless level of sparkly sophistication.

We won’t go on. Here’s how it’s done.

THE SKIN

Image from Vogue

Don’t let this seemingly long list fool you, according to Jennifer, her skincare routine is actually pretty simple and unfussy. To prove this, we collected the things she’s called out as her favorite products and broke down how she uses them.

All together, it turned out to be very…relatable. The steps are far from overwhelming, and the products are a manageable mix of high and low. Honestly, we were pretty floored by how many of them are highly affordable, many even drugstore.

And then, there were a couple surprises we got very excited about.

1. The “Glow” Stick

Tatcha The Serum Stick

The internet went mad when they heard Jen (can we call her Jen?) uses this lovely, dewy little stick to get a concentrated dose of anti-aging hydration. Plus, the idea of simply swiping this glowy serum stick across our face anytime we crave an instant “lift” is just too irresistible to pass up.

Price: $49

2. The Cleanser

Neutrogena The Transparent Facial Bar

Low-key simplicity itself. J- An has sworn by this Neutrogena facial bar as her cleanser of choice for decades. When something works, why dare change it? That said, we’re swapping out our pricey cleanser to try this immediately.

Price: $8 (for 3 bars)

3. The Face Moisturizer

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer

Ok, we know she’s become a spokesperson for the brand, but Jen claims to have used Aveeno loooong before she showed up in their ads. She loves that their moisturizer feels light and lovely when paired with sunscreen. And it still keeps the moisture level incredibly high for a dewy finish.

Price: $21

4. The Day Cream

Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream

Jen mentioned this cream in an interview, where she said she uses it after washing with her $3 bar of soap and applying any one of the serums she’s currently trying out. A glorious dose of this day cream later, and she’s set. Honestly the rich formula which is bursting with rose petal wax, avocado oil, and extracts of marshmallow sort of had us swooning before we even found out that another famous Jennifer (Lopez), whose face defies time itself, also uses it. Enough said.

Price: $45

5. the Night Cream

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Moisturizer with Retinol

We’ve heard rumors that Jen avoids retinol, which can be super drying, but nowadays this luxe, intensely moisturizing cream elixir has become part of her pre-makeup prep on days she’s filming. For those of us who’d love to have a screen-ready level of suppleness to our skin, (without the screen part) we can just dab it on before bed. The ingredients include science-y things like plant stem cells and time-released retinol, which likely explains why huge numbers of people are reporting game-changing increases in their skin’s plumpness, dewiness, and bounce after using it.

Price: $145

6. The Serum

SwissCode Pure Hyaluron

Our friend Jen says she likes to dabble in new serums (which are always part of her skincare equation), but this one apparently contains “the highest concentration of clinical grade hyaluronic acid,” which claims to “increase skin’s moisture levels by 20% in less than 2 hours” and “enhance the absorption of Vitamin C in the skin by 3 times.” Its powerful potency probably explains its price tag. But thankfully, a little goes a long way. And supposedly Jen is just one of a list of famous faces, including Courtney Cox, Emma Thompson, and Helen Mirren, who are all about the wrinkle-melting, glowy rewards of this serum.

Price: $160

7. The Game-Changing Gadget

ZIIP Device with Golden Conductive Gel

We’re told Jen is not afraid to try an at-home skincare tool, but the two she’s raved about are this one about which she told Vogue “I have never seen such a result from a little machine like that.” And we know. The price. But those are some serious words coming from someone who has probably had every facial device known to man sent to her for free. So if you’re going to invest in a gadget, this may be THE one that’s actually worth it.

Price: $349

8. The Magic Wand

Jillian Dempsey Gold Sculpting Bar

The second of the two tools Jen swears by, this magical little wand is designed to help products sink more deeply into your skin. It has a vibrating, actual gold bar that apparently can help ease tension and flush toxins from your cells, all while leaving you smooth, sculpted, and glowy. The process sounds fairly glorious but the results are even more astonishing.

Price: $195

9. The Clay Mask

Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Clay Mask

Whether applied overnight or on a long flight, Jen says she loves the ease of throwing on a mask. This award-winning, 10-minute mask from Charlotte Tilbury is the one she’s called out for its capacity to cast away oil and impurities while keeping everything deeply nourished. Skin is left as supremely soft as it is squeaky clean. Plus, the whole formula is designed to boost collagen production, so you’ll be gushing over your skin’s remarkable elasticity.

Price: $58

10. The Sheet Mask

111SKIN Anti Blemish Bio Cellulose Facial Mask (5 count)

This one comes with a cute story. Jen posted a pic of herself in this mask before attending the Emmy’s. Given that celebrities are known to spend thousands of dollars on year-out bookings of dermatology appointments to attend events of this echalan, we have to say we’re pretty excited about the powers this mask must possess in terms of casting away imperfections.

Price: $135

11. The Eye Mask

Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask

Eye masks are another essential item for Jenny-An’s long days and early mornings, racing to film The Morning Show. These gorgeous ones from Shiseido are supposed to "steam press" away the appearance of wrinkles. If looking well-rested, depuffed, wide-eyed, and awake is your thing, these masks are probably for you.

Price: $20 for a 3-pack

12. The Overnight “Facial”

Aveeno Positively Radiant Overnight Hydrating Facial

In her own words, Jen has claimed sleeping in this moisturizer leaves her emerging from slumber with “dewy, glowing, twinkling skin." It’s not too heavy, so it feels like nothing, but the effect it leaves is luminous.

Price: $47

13. The Scrub

Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub

Another Aveeno gem. Jen says she uses a more penetrating scrub (this one to be exact) three times a week for extra smooth, thoroughly clean skin that can then absorb all the other lovely things 27x better. Oh, and it’s $15. Yay.

Price: $10

14. The Blemish Treatment

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

And when those pesky pimples pop up, this spot treatment is what she’s always used to banish them back whence they came. (We use it too. It’s the best).

Price: $18

15. The Body Lotion

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion

Apparently she keeps bottles of this lotion all over the place for instant boosts of pure moisture. For $9 a bottle, we can thankfully afford to do the same.

Price: $9

16. The Sunscreen

Aveeno Positively Mineral Sensitive Skin Daily Sunscreen

This is one of a small number of things Jen repeatedly tells eager beauty reporters (or outright stalkers like us) are crucial to her healthy skin. And as someone who likes to be in the sun, she seems like the sort of person who’d recommend the best sunscreen. You know? In the same way a French woman might recommend the best fragrance. Or Diane Keaton might recommend the best turtleneck. Point is, we trust.

Price: $18

THE HAIR

Image from The Cut

There is sooo much to say about her hair. And believe me, we’ve said A LOT of it. The richly blended, smoothly interwoven layers of golden hues are one thing. The famous cuts are another. But as someone who’s likened her hair to a “security blanket,” we know that more than just being styled, Aniston’s hair is also very well taken care of. And luckily, between her longtime hairdresser, her beloved Instagram videos, and her newly launched brand of hair products, we now know exactly how she does it.

17. The Detangler

LolaVie Glossing Detangler

LolaVie is Jen’s own recently launched brand of haircare products, so it’s safe to say we’re mostly seeing her using her own stuff lately - shampoo, conditioner, etc. But this product seems to be a shining source of pride for the line. Perhaps you’ve even seen the viral Instagram video where Jen tosses around her wet tresses, spraying this lovely detangler, then drying her hair to glossy perfection. It all looks so easy, because, we suspect, it just might be. See for yourself.

Price: $26 - $49

18. The Gloss

Canalé Signature Gloss Midnight Blue

According to her stylist, this product is the key to how he upholds the stunning honey tones of Jen’s hair. It adds shine while preventing those awful brassy shades from peaking through. Given that he’s responsible for what could be the most desired hair color in existence, we’re gonna go ahead and take his word for it.

Price: $59

19. The Wet Brush

Wet Brush Pro Flex Dry

And here it is, the famous brush we scrambled to find after the above video emerged. Basically, we figured if it’s good enough to uphold the strands of Jennifer Aniston, it’d be good enough to comb through our chaotic tresses as we leap from the shower into whatever thing we’re already 20 minutes late for.

Price: $10

20. The Dry Brush

S-Heart-S Scalp Brush

This one is for brushing our hair once it’s dry. You may not think it makes a difference to use a different brush on wet and dry hair, but if you’re like us and experiencing the over-40 shedding that completely changes your hair/ life, you definitely want to choose the brushes you use carefully along with when you use them.

Price: $44

THE MAKEUP

Image from Real Simple

Jennifer Aniston has low-key mastered the effortless, natural makeup look we all dream about. And despite having expert makeup artists at her whim, the products she swears by are fairly simple and basically foolproof. Some are slightly on the pricier side, but it’s truly a case where you’re paying for the best thing so you don’t need more things to make up for what’s lacking.

21. The Concealer

Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer SPF 27

We’re not calling ourselves influencers, but before we even knew Jen named this one of her essential beauty bag items, we wrote about this product as one of only 15 beauty things that are worth splurging on. And honestly, it lasts so long, we can’t even tell if we spent more on this or the 2-3 pots of concealer we used before we discovered this. It has the serious, smooth, imperfection-concealing coverage we need, particularly as we get older. But the finish is so natural, it still leaves us with that minimal makeup look Jen is famous for.

Price: $75

22. The Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick

Another of Jen’s named necessities. And pretty much the singular answer to the perfect natural pink lip we’ve always dreamed of.

Price: $35

23. The Mascara

Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara

She relies on this foolproof mascara to make her sparkly blue eyes pop.

Price: $38

24. The Blush

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheeks

This little pot of cream blush is how she flushes her cheeks with that rosy glow. But she mixes like three different colors, which sounds like kind of a hassle. So maybe instead just use THIS, which is from Bobbi Brown’s new line Jones Road. It’s the biggest no-makeup makeup hack in existence. We promise you will never look back.

Price: $35

25. The Lip Balm

Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm

The final item in Jen’s incredibly simple, yet admittedly very chic makeup bag. This is the quintessential quenching, renewing, and healing lip balm for our poor, dehydrated lips.

Price: $17

The “inside” Stuff

Image from Pop Sugar

Obviously, no beauty routine begins and ends in front of a bathroom mirror. Like it or not, the real reasons Jennifer Aniston or any gracefully aging person looks the way they do usually involves a series of healthful choices. And genetics. Aniston’s Greek heritage is actually one of the main things to which she attributes her all but wrinkle-free skin.

But we’ll focus on the part we have any choice in. And here are Miss Aniston’s exemplary choices that keep her looking the way she does:

  • Drink 100 ounces of water a day.

  • Eat well. Specifically eat plenty of protein, which many people, namely women, skimp on. In addition to lots of organic fruits and veggies, Jen does things like adding extra egg whites to eggs (and even oatmeal). She also famously loves a garbanzo bean. Finally, she tends to avoid fried foods, soda, and too much sugar.

  • Drink Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. OK, so Jen joined as the Chief Creative Officer of Vital Proteins, so it’s easy to chalk up her enthusiasm for their products to being part of her job. But protein is obviously important, and there are some studies starting to trace the rewards of collagen, so we aren’t totally skeptical about her seeing results. Ultimately, she swears by her routine of adding this to her coffee or smoothie in the morning.

  • Sleep. You get it. We won’t put you to sleep discussing this further.

  • Exercise. Look, she’s a multi-millionaire celeb whose job it is to look great, and that likely means at-home gyms and endless Pilates trainers coming to her house, while we’re all just out here trying to do push-ups against the kitchen sink while we’re burning the chicken after working 10 hours a day. But Jen’s workouts include this, dare we say “doable,” thing called 15/15/15.

Basically, she spends 15 minutes on a bike, then 15 minutes on a cross trainer, and 15 minutes on a treadmill. Hard-core as we’re sure it is, we do like the idea of breaking things up into smaller segments like this. And of course, she mixes in Pilates and weights.
