This article is part of our series called "People We Like," in which we highlight interesting women, across all walks of life.

Leaders, great cooks, doctors, parents, writers; people who inspire us.

Today, we’re featuring beauty industry leader and Stila founder Jeanine Lobell, who recently launched the revolutionary, subscription-based, clean makeup line Neen.

The Candidly Questionnaire

1. What’s an overrated value you don’t buy into?

Rugged individualism, I think we all need people and community - no one should have to go it alone.

2. Are essential oils anything?

I’m not so up on essential oils, but I do enjoy a face or body oil for hydration before bedtime.

3. What's the most effective beauty trick you use?

I love making a mouth look fuller and pouty without an over-drawn vibe. I do this by removing the Cupid’s bow, drawing a straight line from the top points of the lip connecting the two, then sketching a little higher. I also draw in the corners straighter down, instead of lining to the outer corners of the lips for a fuller effect.

4. How do you get your self-esteem?

I believe the key is to meet yourself with compassion. If you can accept that you are just a flawed human being then mistakes are just moments you can own. Be kind to yourself and move on. I meditate a lot, treat myself and others without judgement, and lead with kindness. If I don’t do this for others, how can I offer it to myself genuinely?

5. What meal do you dream of?

Ice cream…wait, is ice cream a meal? At the very least it deserves its own food group!

6. What’s your favorite (non-living) thing in your house right now?

I have this tiny metal tree from the 70s. It’s gold with shimmering leaves. It’s called a “Dream Tree.”

7. How do you handle conflict in your closest relationships?

I try to think of conflict as an opportunity to learn to be more compassionate and closer to someone. I try to come at things with the thought “what was my part in it and what could I have done differently?” I always try to listen to the other person’s point of view on how they got there. A quote from Rumi that inspires me is, “Somewhere between right and wrong, there is a garden. I will meet you there.”

8. What’s your most compelling quality?

I am super patient and pretty funny, too, I must say!

9. If you could only follow one account on social media, who would it be?

Amy Sedaris

10. What’s something you’ve changed your mind about in the past year?

Empty nest syndrome is real!

11. What do you do to get into a flow state?

 I am an avid meditator.

12. What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about yourself as a leader?

To trust my intuition in order to have true clarity on why I am making a decision. Is it intuition? Is it fear? Laziness? People pleasing? Finding the true nature of a decision is very important.

13. Is social media ruining everything?

On one hand, I believe social media is making some people overly invested in projecting a certain self and even in some cases maybe even a little “addicted” to the dopamine rush of likes and social approval. So that can be the downside, and I think it’s important to monitor your own relationship to social media.

But, the amazing part of social media is information in real time and shining a light on injustices like the protests in Iran. Sometimes I imagine historical atrocities and wonder if there was social media back then, would we have suspended the disbelief that allowed so many things go on for way longer than they should have.

14. No one is home. Nothing is due. Emails are answered. You have the day blessedly to yourself. What do you do?

Maybe play a little Mah Jongg – I love this game!
